Fastest vehicle crossing the Egyptian Western Desert

 

Abu Simbel, November 10th, 2009 – Authority, the Guinness World Records announced that adventurer Hesham Mohamed Nessim, has successfully set another individual Egyptian world record for the fastest crossing connecting the two farthest points of the Western Desert - from Siwa Oasis in the north west to Abu Simbel in the south east.

On the morning of November 10th at 6:35 am, Egyptian adventurer Hesham Nessim has Under the auspices of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion traversed a distance of 1,280 kilometers in a Land Rover LR4 in three stages. The first stage was represented in crossing the Great Sands Sea, followed by the open desert and reach the final stage in crossing the mountains and rocks area. The crossing was achieved in 13 hours and 54 minutes at a speed between 110 - 120 kms per hour.

The Guinness World Records has elected this day for the event to coincide with the GWR Day Celebrations that take place annually during the month of November. The crossing of the Egyptian Western Desert is one of the greatest world achievements being recorded in addition to being the first time that an Egyptian or an Arab would break the record twice in one year in the Guinness World Record.

The Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority has sponsored the event in significance to its strategy to highlight the natural beauty of the Western Desert, as well as promote Desert Tourism product

To prepare for this adventure, Hesham Nessim has made three discovery trials in preparation for the Fastest Vehicle Crossing the Egyptian Western Desert adventure in cooperation with the Land Rover Car Company that provided Hesham with an LR4 car.

The Land Rover LR4 is comprised of a Turbo Diesel motor that comes with a 245 hp and 600 Newton Meter in addition to using direct injection V-6 in the capacity of 300 liters. The LR4 also includes a double overhead cam, brake assist system, electronic traction control, cornering brake control, terrain response offering a sand launch control and hill descent control and front fog lights.
 


Beyonce and Salma Hayek Tours Egypt

 

Grammy award winner and popstar diva Beyonce visited Cairo to take a tour of Egypt's many adventurous tourist attractions. Beyonce saw the Great Pyramids of Giza as well as the Sphinx. She listened to a presentation on the Pyramids' treasures and learned how Egypt's exploration methods and latest technology discovers new antiquities until today. The presentations informed the American superstar of the secrets of the Great Pyramid corridors and mysterious stories of the Sphinx as Beyonce showed her admiration and appreciation of the ancient Egyptian culture and rich history. Beyonce came to Egypt for her concert in Port Ghalib, Red Sea, on November 6th, where thousands of Egyptians watched the popular singer blast the stage. 

 International superstar Salma Hayek visited Egypt to attend the Cairo International Film Festival on November 10th. During her stay, Hayek visited the Pyramids of Giza along with her French husband Francois and her two-year-old daughter Valentina. Hayek and her family saw the monuments of Sakkara and they were told about the wonders of Egypt and its ancient glory.  They watched presentations of the secrets that lie beneath the Sphinx and Hayek also went inside the Pyramids and saw the new pyramid that was recently discovered. Salma Hayek and her family toured Egypt's many splendid destinations.

 

New Look Egyptian Open Set For European Challenge Tour Future

 

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, sixty professional golfers will line up with a selection of the Middle East’s best amateur and professional players to contest $200,000 in prize-money when one of the world’s oldest Open golf events – gets underway at Cairo’s Mirage City Golf Course in November 2009.

The event will enjoy European Challenge Tour support with the Egyptian Open set to attain full Challenge tour status in 2010 and 2011 with the potential of achieving full European tour status in years to come. We will also have Egyptian-based professionals, as well as local and regional amateurs participating.

European Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie will make his first playing appearance in Egypt participating in the event. Colin is an eight-time Order of Merit winner and one of the biggest names in the world of golf.Following the curtain-raising Pro-Am on November 4, the Egyptian Open will be a 72-hole event with no cut, giving all the visiting professionals a chance to experience four days play over the Peter Harradinedesigned course. The Open, which was first staged in 1921, is back at the forefront of golf in the region.

Golf has a historic relationship with Egypt dating back to 1882 and the building of the Gezira Club. Legends Bobby Locke and Peter Thomson, who between them won nine Open Championship titles, competed in Egypt in the 1950s. This year’s competitors will be following in the footsteps of the legendary Gary Player who began a stellar run of 164 international tournament titles with victory on Egyptian grass back in 1955. In December 2005, Egypt won The Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year Award, voted for by the Golf Travel Writers Association, comprising 60 leading golf travel journalists from fifteen countries. Since then, the sport has continued to grow with new courses and resorts catering to an increasing demand from golfers from around the globe.

Characters of Egypt An Egyptian festival celebrating local tribal heritage  

 

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, and in cooperation with Wadi Environmental Science Centre (WESC), and the Egyptian Desert Pioneers Society (EDPS), the Characters of Egypt Festival’s second round will be held on the 29th till the 31st of October at Fustat Wadi El Gemal, located 45 km south of Marsa Alam.

The number of tribes partaking in this year’s festivities has risen to twenty-one, hailing from Siwa, Matrouh, Farafra, Aswan, Arish, Nuweiba, St. Kathrine, Dahab, Sharm el Sheikh, the Red Sea Mountain Range and Marsa Alam, covering the Western, Eastern and Southern deserts, Nile valley, as well as north and south Sinai. These tribes will reveal Egypt’s shrouded diversity in a three-day cultural extravaganza, unprecedented in the region.

The Festival will showcase traditional sciences and arts, fuel friendly competitions through age-old games, and provide guests with the chance to catch a glimpse of life as it exists in the different areas of Egypt’s extensive deserts.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discover desert navigation, shadow reading and camel riding, mountain running, high rope jumping and the highly-prized camel races, as well as gain knowledge about the fauna and flora of the desert, tribal costumes and jewels, and traditional dishes.

FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009  

The FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009, the 17th tournament to be contested, will be hosted by Egypt from September 24 to October 16. Seven stadiums in five Egyptian cities, Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, Suez and Ismailia, host the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009. Open to young players under 20, the tournament sees 24 teams from six confederations battle it out for the trophy.
Qualified countries are USA, Costa Rica, Honduras, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, UAE, Australia, Korea Republic, Uzbekistan, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Tahiti, Spain and Egypt.
The first match will take place on the 24th of September in Alexandria’s Egyptian Army Stadium, which can hold more than 80,000 spectators, while the final match will take place at the Cairo International Stadium on October 16th.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009 will be the second FIFA competition organized by Egypt, which hosted the FIFAU-17 World Cup in 1997. The top 24 teams from all over the world will compete for the title. The 2007 tournament was played in Canada and won by Argentina in a 2-1 defeat over Czech Republic.
FIFA was founded in Paris on 21 May 1904 and has 208 member associations. In the sixteen tournaments played, only seven countries have won the title. Argentina comes first, with six wins, followed by Brazil with four wins and Portugal with two wins, while Germany, Spain, formerly Soviet Union and Yugoslavia have won the title once.
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the international governing body of association football. Its headquarters is in Zürich, Switzerland, and the current president is Sepp Blatter. FIFA is responsible for the organization and governance of major international football tournaments, most notably the FIFA World Cup, held since 1930.

Fastest vehicle crossing the Egyptian Western Desert  

Cairo, July 2009 -After breaking the record for the fastest crossing of the Great Sand Sea, and under the auspices of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, the Egyptian adventurer, Hesham Nessim, plans to set another record on the 10th of November 2009, in the Western Desert using one vehicle driving from Siwa to Abu Simbel.

The Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority will sponsor the adventure believing in the significance of such activities that highlights the natural beauty of Egypt and its touristic and archeological wonders that connects two of the farthest touristic cities in Egypt; Siwa in the north west and Abu Simbel in the south east, in line with ETPA current strategy to promote the “Desert Tourism Product”. According to the Guinness World Records (GWR), if this adventure were to succeed, it would be one of the strongest achievements worldwide, as it would be the first time for an Egyptian, or an Arab, to break the record twice in the same year.

The event will take place on GWR Day on November, indicating the importance of this considerable event. The actual distance between the two points that Nessim will cover is estimated between 2,350 km and 2,450 km; however, he will attempt to drive a shortcut of an average 1,250 km to 1,350 km in one shot in 13 to 20 hours . This distance is characterized by unique geological aspects, such as the Ammonite

Mountains, the area of Abu Ballas, as well as other parts that contain fossils and skeletons of dinosaurs. Furthermore, Land Rover will provide Nessim with the necessary vehicle for the crossing.

 

 

 

Obama's Visit to Egypt  

 

During US President stay in Cairo where he gave his speech to the world’s Muslims, Barak Obama visited the Sultan Hassan Mosque and toured the great Pyramids of Giza.

At the Mosque, The U.S. President was accompanied by secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, and guided by Mrs. Iman Abdel Fattah, who explained to Obama and his entourage the Mosques’ history.

Sultan Hassan Mosque is considered one of the masterpieces of the Mameluk architecture. It is known as the most compact and unified Islamic monument in Cairo. The building was commissioned by Sultan Hassan bin Al-Nasir Muhammad bin Qalawun in 1356 AD as a mosque and religious school for all four juristic branches of Sunni Islam. The Construction started in 1356 AD and ended seven years later in 1363 AD. Admiring the mosque’s architecture , Obama exceeded the 30 minutes planned visit duration.

After delivering his speech to the Islamic world, Obama visited the Great Pyramids of Giza, which he labeled “awe-inspiring”. Dr. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the supreme council of antiquities, accompanied The U.S. President in his tour which took 80 minutes . Hawass guided Obama in and around the pyramids, the sphinx, the solar boat and the tomb of Qar who Hawass described as a well known priest, judge in ancient Egypt. On the wall of the tomb was the hieroglyphic sign “ Hr” engraved in the stone representing a thin man’s head with big ears. Obama noticed the large ears on either side of the face and commented that it looked like him. Obama described the tour as the best experience of his presidency so far.
